We remodeled our kitchen and built an island/bar and used clear rope light along the underside of the bottom and also installed a strip under the lip of the bar's top surface to help light up the counter top.
We're 110% pleased with the look and we're even considering using the rest of the rope light around the ceiling in another room. If anyone has any ideas or information on the best way to get the ambient lighting effect like we have and not be able to see the rope lights around the ceiling please let us know.

Just run a strip of molding near the ceiling to hide it in.

Yeah, a nice piece of crown molding would do the trick. Crown mold is available in a huge variety of shapes and colors. I think they even make some specifically for rope lights. You might try doing a search engine search for rope light crown mold. Here is a picture of a completed one:

Wow!  That gives me a really good idea!  I want to accent my cupboards up on top because I have cathredral ceilings.
