3 wire versus 5 wire rope lighting

I understand that 3 wire and 5 wire are chasing rope lights, but what are the differences beyond that? What is the best choice for an application  that could easily fit 1/2" or a 5/8"? Which rope light gives off more lighting? If anyone could please help me with these questions

In my experience is simply comes down to control and what controller you are planning on using...5 wire tends to give more varieties in lighting...Just me experience thus far..
